New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday inaugurated a state-of-the-art sports injury centre at Safdarjung Hospital here for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The Rs70-crore centre, equipped with the latest facilities, will cater to sports persons during the Games. It will be open to the public after the Games.

The 35-bed centre has three modular operation theaters with pre-operative and post-operative rooms and a two-bed ICU in the post-operative room.

High-end equipment like MRI, CT scan, bone densitometry, digital X-ray and colour doppler and laboratory services have been outsourced on a revenue sharing basis in the public-private-partnership mode.

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit were also present at the function.

Some 7,000 participants and officials from 71 countries and territories are expected to attend the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, India's biggest sporting event after the 1982 Asian Games.
