Washington: For the first time, the nation has elected an African-American president. Barack Obama delivered a victory speech in front of hundreds of thousands of supporters.

At this defining moment, change has come to America, one day after Barack Obama's historic presidential victory; security was tight outside of Obama's Chicago home.

Choosing to spend his Thursday out of the public eye, the president elect is expected to instead meet with top advisers to discuss his transition team.

All Americans can be proud of the history that was made on Wednesday and President Bush and secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, congratulated Obama on his win and said they are ready to help in any way they can.

“I will personally do everything that I can, to make sure that this is a smooth transition,” says Sen Barack Obama

Obama's message of change and unity resonated across party lines. Republican red states like Virginia, Ohio and Florida turned blue helping Obama defeat rival John McCain.

At the end of the long and divisive campaign, the senator from Arizona graciously conceded.

“Join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together,” says George W Bush

In Phoenix on Wednesday, McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin responded to criticism that she had possibly cost McCain the election.

“I don't think anybody should give Sarah Palin that much credit that my presence on the ticket would trump the economic crisis that America found itself in a couple of months ago and attribute John McCain's loss to me. But now having said that, if I cost John McCain even one vote, I am sorry about that,” says Gov Sarah Palin

So much the traditional honeymoon, Obama is wasting no time - starting intelligence briefings tomorrow - and could announce his Chief of Staff by the end of the week.

What's your reaction?
