KOCHI: Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty has said that there won’t be any Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP), in the case of Public Sector Units (PSUs). Speaking to the media after an interaction with industrialists on  framing the IT and industrial policies of the state, the Minister said that restructuring of PSUs cannot be done as per the policy of the Centre. The state government has decided to organise a meet, ‘Emerging Kerala’ by March-April 2012, to find out the opportunities and prospects in the industries sector, the Minister said.It will be a platform for new industries to establish their industrial units in Kerala.“The Union government’s way of restructuring cannot be done here. At least for now, there won’t be any PPP model for PSUs,” he said. The Minister said that a collective approach would be taken in the case of land utilisation policy for industries.“There are different aspects like environmental concerns, waste land issue and land availability to be considered,” he pointed out.Earlier addressing the industrialists, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries & Commerce) T Balakrishnan said that 82 percentage of contribution to the sector is from private industries. He said that there should be a PPP model for infrastructure development.“We need to recognise the strength of the trade service sector. Reappraisal of what is relevant for the state is also important,” he said.Balakrishnan pointed out that the new industrial and IT policies of the state focus on the fact that any economic activity should generate economic growth, well paid jobs and generate tax.
