CHENNAI: The Nithyananda Peetam on Thursday lodged a complaint with the City Police Commissioner against Sun TV, accusing the electronic channel of trying “to create hatred against the Hindu religion” by televising “morphed video clippings” of their guru with an actress in March last.Accompanied by a large number of devotees, Peetam president Nithya Sarvananda arrived at the city police commissionerate in the morning. In his petition, he alleged that “obscene, morphed video clippings impersonating our spiritual guru Sri Nithyananda Paramahamsar with another female said to have been a Tamil actress” was telecast by Sun TV on March 3, 2010.He said the telecast was aired with the ulterior motive of creating hatred against the Hindu religion and their organisation. The Sun TV management, its chairman and managing director Kalanidhi Maran and chief operating officer Hansraj Saxena, with the intention of maligning the Peetam’s reputation, fame and popularity in society, had repeatedly telecast the “adulterous and unethical video footage” on Sun TV and Sun News channels. As a result, the organisation’s spiritual and yoga centres across Tamil Nadu were “brutally attacked by goondas accompanying the Sun TV crew” and the property damaged. The inmates of the centres were abused. Citing several such incidents, the petition demanded action against Kalanidhi Maran, Saxena and other crew members for causing mischief, destroying property, attacking devotees and inmates and setting fire to the centres.
