CJI to hear contempt petition against Sabrimala head chief today
The Chief Justice of India will be hearing a contempt petition against the Sabarimala head priest over the shuddi or ‘purification’ ritual he led after two women in their 40s entered the shrine. On Tuesday, over 50 lakh women had formed a 670 km long ‘wall’, to protest against the right-wing groups' opposition to the entry of women in the Ayyappa shrine in Sabarimala. Following this, news of the two women entering the temple broke yesterday morning. Incidences of protests and stone-pelting sprung up soon afterwards, leading to the death of an Ayyappa devotee.
Uproar in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to continue over Rafale and Triple Talaq?

70 organisations led by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti have announced indefinite protests against Citizenship Bill after a Joint Parliamentary Committee approved of a draft of the Citizenship Amendment, 2016. According to KMSS adviser Akhil Gogoi, the bill will not accommodate for the indigenous communities of the state and reservation of seats in the assembly is nothing but “eyewash". They organizations are likely to form a rail blockade and economic blockade. Meanwhile, counting for the National Register of Citizens is still on as 30.2 lakh people have filed for claims after a final draft of the bill was brought out in December 31.

26 AIADMK legislators suspended for causing disruptions in the house
Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday suspended 26 AIADMK legislators for disrupting the Lok Sabha session. The legislators protest against Karnataka’s proposal to build a dam on the Cauvery, came at a time when a heated debated was being fought between the Congress and BJP sides over the issue of the Rafale deal. The parliamentarians, who have been demanding for the Centre to intervene in matters of the dam proposal, cannot attend the next five sessions. Haryana Govt announces plans to revival mythical Saraswati river
Haryana Government led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday announced 11 projects that will work towards the rejuvenation of mythical Saraswati River. Among these are Somb Saraswati barrage, Saraswati reservoir and Adi Badri dam on Somb river, a tributary of the Yamuna that originates in the Shivalik Hills, which according to a few experts are a part of the original course of the Saraswati. The projects were approved in a meeting of the Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board.
100% crop insurance for farmers, announces West Bengal CM
As many state government moved to give financial aid to their farmers, Mamata Banerjee also announced to pay 100% crop insurance. “From now onwards, we will pay the entire insurance amount to the farmers. The Centre pays only 20% of the cost with much hue and cry around it," Banerjee said. Earlier, the West Bengal Chief Minister had initiated a series of schemes for nearly 71 lakh farmers including a life insurance.
