New Delhi: Team Europe has won their first men's title since 1981 with 140 points, six ahead of the United States at the Athletics World Cup in Greece.
The big upset of the day was that of Kenenisa Bekele in the 3000 metres. Australian Craig Mottram outran the Ethiopian to clinch the gold in the Olympic stadium in Athens.
But there were no upsets in the women's 200 metres. Sanya Richards added to the 400 metres gold she had won a day earlier.
Though she finished slower than 22.17 in Stuttgart, Richards was way ahead of the rest.
The women's 100m hurdles saw a determined Bridgitte Foster-Hilton edge out the European champion Susanna Kallur with a time of 12.67 seconds.
In the men's 110m hurdles, four-time world champion Allen Johnson clocked 12.96 seconds to finish ahead of Olympic champion and world record holder Xiang Lu.
Lyudmila Kolchanova gave Russia another medal by winning the long jump event with a jump of 6.78 metres while Walter Davis took the gold in the men's triple jump with a leap of 17.5 metre.
