BANGALORE: Following a fire mishap in the city market on Monday night, 14 families have lost their livelihood as they depended on the stalls that were gutted in the fire.Flower stalls, plantain leaf shops, tea shops and stalls which sell puja items were gutted in the fire. Chandru, who was running Naras-imhaswamy Flower Stall that was destroyed in the fire said that since many the times of his grand father they had depended on flower stall. “Now, its very hard to get it back. At least I have to arrange Rs 1 lakh to start another stall. But don’s know how to arrange that big amount,” he said.S K Mani, whose plantain leaf stall was gutted in fire, said that it was shocking for him to know his shop had caught fire. “Even after this, I have to pay rent to the owner. My family is completely dependent on this business only. It is very difficult to start the business again from the scratch,” he lamented.Meanwhile, the shopkeepers alleged that BBMP officials had illegally given permission to tea stalls in the market and the fire broke out in a tea stall resulted in great loss.However, the fire officials are yet to find out the exact reason for the fire.Roopa Ramesh, Standing Committee Chairperson for Market said, “These vendors are engaging in a blamegame. We need to study and I have directed officials to investigate,” she stated.
