New Delhi: Youth and students were the focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann ki Baat radio address on Sunday, during which he asked them to exchange their comfort zone for new experiences this summer vacation.

Addressing the 31st episode of the monthly radio address, the Prime Minister said: “Summer vacations are here. Use them to learn new skills and enjoy new experiences. Do something that takes you out of your comfort zone."

Modi advised youngsters to explore new places. “Take a train ride this vacation and talk to people. Learn about their experiences and about their lives."

He also advised them to bond with under-privileged children.

In the evenings, pick up your football and go out to play. Play and bond with children who belong to families less privileged than yours. I am sure you’ll make nice, new friends," the PM said.

Modi again urged the youth to refer and teach BHIM app to others, saying they stood to earn Rs 10 per referral.

During the 45-minute address, the PM also touched upon the burning issue of climate change. “Climate change is no longer limited to seminars and debates. Nature has changed the rules of the game. Climate is our everyday reality," he said.

Talking about the recent ban on red beacon cars, the PM said the decision to get rid of red beacons is aimed at removing the VIP culture from the mindset of certain people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said and added that the concept should be replaced with "EPI", meaning "Every Person is Important".

"I did not know that people have so much contempt for the VIP culture before we took the decision recently banning use of red beacons on vehicles of ministers and others," he said

He said the red beacon had become a symbol of VIP culture which had creeped the mindset of those using it. "Experience shows that though the red beacon would be used atop a vehicle, gradually the VIP culture would go to the head of those using it and it would lead to a mindset of VIP culture.

"Although the 'lal batti' is gone now, nobody can claim that because of this, the VIP culture which has gone into the mindset would have also gone," Modi said.
