Madani to be arrested in Bangalore blast case
The Bangalore blasts on July 25, 2008 had claimed a woman and left 20 injured.

Bangalore/Kollam: A team of Bangalore police arrived in Kerala on Tuesday to arrest People's Democratic Party leader Abdul Nasser Madani, listed an accused in the charge sheet filed in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case.

As the news spread, PDP workers and supporters of Madani began pouring in at his camp at Anwarassery near Kollam.

The team, led by a deputy commissioner of police, arrived in Kochi from where they headed to Kollam, the district where Madani is camping, police said.

Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said that the team is in Kollam to arrest the PDP leader.

Madani was listed as an accused in an additional charge sheet filed by SIT probing the Bangalore blasts, based on statements given to the police by key accused T Nazeer.

The Karnataka High Court had last week dismissed Madani's anticipatory bail plea, taking into account the seriousness of offences committed by the accused and "in view of the internal security and interest of the nation".

The court had rapped the investigating officer for issuing notice to Madani under Section 91 of CrPC (relating to summons to produce document or other things), which "was not warranted when there was concrete evidence to arrest him".

A fast track court in Bangalore rejected a similar plea by Madani last month.

The Bangalore blasts on July 25, 2008 had claimed a woman and left 20 injured.

Madani was the main accused in the Coimbatore serial blasts case in 1998 in which 58 people were killed hours before BJP leader L K Advani was to address an election meeting. He was, however, acquitted by a trial court in the case.
