THIRUVANANTHAPURM: A UDF sub-committee which closely examined the controversial liquor policy of  the State Government has recommended curbs to the proposal to allot bars to all three-star hotels which had applied for the same in the ongoing fiscal. It also called for restoring the powers of local bodies to finally decide on sanctioning of liquor outlets within their jurisdiction.  The sub-committee headed by senior leader and Congress spokesman M M Hassan also recommended not to sanction more outlets of  the State Beverages Corporation. These recommendations comes in the backdrop of severe criticism raised by various quarters, including Congress leader V M Sudheeran, against the UDF government’s liquor policy. The church too had been sore at the government on the issue. The sub-committee was constituted after the issue became a contentious one.The liquor policy of the new government had allowed sanctioning of bars to three-star hotels till the end of this financial year, with a rider that only four and five-star hotels will be entitled for such allotments from the next financial year. The policy had led to a flurry of applications from three-star hotels,  eventually leading to cropping up of corruption charges. Addressing a news conference here, Hassan said that the findings and recommendations will be submitted for the consideration of  the UDF.
