Speaker after speaker at the valedictory celebrations of 150th year of the Madras High Court urged the litigants, the Bench and the Bar to keep aloft the traditions and glorious past of the High Court.

TN Governor Dr K Rosaiah said that the aesthetic building of Madras High Court spoke volumes of the ancient architecture as it reminded the landmark judgments, professional brilliance and reasoned arguments of great barristers.

This showcased not only its grandeur but also underlined the high reputation and the renowned name the High Court had earned over the years, he said.

Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Kurshid said that the Bench and the Bar were accountable to the litigants.

Of late, the ‘identity’ of an Indian citizen was being eroded. Regain the identity, the minister said and suggested to do whatever possible to improve the justice delivery system.

Offering felicitations, Supreme Court senior judge Altamas Kabir advised the advocates to retrospect and find out whether they had been fulfilling their obligations to the poor and marginalised litigants.

Justice P Sathasivam said that the judiciary in Tamil Nadu, when compared to other High Courts in the country, represented wider cross sections of society while Justice Aftab Alam urged the advocates to maintain the credibility the HC had earned over 150 years to raise it to a still greater height.

Justice FM Ibrahim Kalifulla wanted the judiciary to ensure in the coming years also to maintain the great name and reputation in tune with the developments in various aspects.
