Rajesh Madiwal from Kumta Taluk in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka has once again made the state and the country proud for bringing home laurels. This time, Rajesh Madiwal secured the gold medal in the bench press category of the weightlifting competition at the International Firefighters’ Games 2024, which was held in Denmark last week.
In the International Firefighters’ Games 2024, he won the gold medal in the bench press category by lifting 210 kilograms. The sportsman has served as a fireman in Kumta, Karnataka and the evenings, he used to practise weightlifting and powerlifting at the Kumta Municipality.
Previously, in May, he participated in the Asian Powerlifting Championship, where he achieved an important victory. He lifted 660 kg and triumphed in the deadlift, benchpress and squat. Interestingly, the firefighter has been training as a powerlifter for just a year. But his level of strength and fitness was above-average level since he has been working out for the past 12 years.
Meanwhile, for the last 18 years, he has been serving as a firefighter. Out of this, for 12 years, he dedicated four to five hours every day to training and exercise at the Kumta Municipality Gym. Such was his diligence that he used to hit the gym either after work or before his shift began. With more than a decade long training and exercising, he was advised to participate in powerlifting championships because of his physique and strength.
He began training under the powerlifting champion Vikram Prabhu. He showcased his skills in state and national-level competitions. However, he left everyone impressed after his accomplishment in the Powerlifting Championship held in Hong Kong from May 5 to May 11. After lifting 660 kg, he secured the silver medal.
His participation and victories are proof that with dedication, proper training and commitment, it is quite possible to reach the heights of success.
