The Jat Reservation Bill will not be tabled in the Haryana Assembly on Thursday due to delay in consensus over modalities, sources said.
Concerned over Jat quota stir, Haryana government in February had decided to bring a bill in the Assembly session to grant OBC status to Jats. A high-level committee headed by Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu was formed to look into the demand of the Jat community for reservation in central government jobs.
The Jat agitation claimed 19 lives and caused extensive damage to public and private property.
Meanwhile, an alert has again been issued in Haryana and security forces have been deployed after Jat protesters called for a bandh in the state on Thursday. The call for bandh was given after 72-hour deadline for cancellation of cases against them ended.
The sources reveal that Jat organisations will meet in Rohtak on Friday to decide further course of action. They had also demanded reservation be brought in by today, in an attempt to pressure the Haryana government.
Nearly 60 percent of water supply to Delhi was also badly affected due to the quota stir in February, prompting the government to rationalise water supply and approach the Supreme Court for help.
