Kolkata: West Bengal Industries and Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee on Tuesday said IT major Infosys Technologies should "realise" the position of the state government on special economic zones (SEZs).
Infosys has got 50 acre of land recently at Rajarhat near the metropolis for setting up the first IT facility in West Bengal. The company had reportedly written to Hidco, which allotted the land, saying that the company had applied to the Centre for SEZ status and also needed state's support in this regard.
"Official stand of our government is that we will not go for SEZs," Chatterjee told.
Chatterjee said "since they have not written to the commerce and industry department, let them write to us and state what specific benefits they want.
"We are in the process of discussion to ascertain the mood of Infosys and will also do our best to accommodate them," he said.
"We will discuss the issues pertaining to the Centre regarding what kind of benefits they want," he said.
