Indian hockey teams stable in rankings
The rankings of India's men and women's hockey teams remained static on Friday in the latest FIH rankings.

New Delhi: There has been a furore across the hockey circles about India's diminishing impact in the game, but the rankings of India's men and women's hockey teams remained static on Friday.

The Indian men's team retained their ranking of No 7 in the world, while the women remained on No 13 in the FIH charts, despite winning a bronze medal at the recently concluded Asian Games in Doha.

The Indian men, who finished a disappointing fifth after failing to make it to the semifinals of the Asian Games for the first time, now have 1,293 points after losing 125 because of their poor performance in Doha.

India also run the risk of losing the seventh spot to Argentina, who are on 1,275 points. The Indian women, despite winning bronze, lost 100 points in the charts.

China, who were the surprise package of the Doha Games, jumped one place to 18th after their silver winning performance.

Men's rankings (top 10): 1 Germany (2315), 2 Australia (2295), 3 Spain (2193), 4 Netherlands (2000), 5 Pakistan (1835), 6 Korea (1600), 7 India (1293), 8 Argentina (1275), 9 England (1249), 10 New Zealand (1220).

Women's rankings (top 10): 1 Netherlands (2556), 2 Australia (2180), 3 Argentina (2158), 4 Germany (2015), 5 China (1816), 6 Japan (1410), 7 Spain (1355), 8 New Zealand (1271), 9 Korea (1255), 10 USA (1180)... 13. India (750).
