Indian envoy meets ‘doc terror’, says he’s innocent
A top counter terrorism expert reaches Australia to assist in Haneef probe.

New Delhi: The Australian Police have extended the detention of Indian suspect Mohammad Haneef who was arrested at Brisbane airport on Tuesday night for alleged links with the failed London and Glasgow terror plots by two days.

Intelligence agencies narrowed their search on him after his SIM card was reportedly found on a Jordanian man called Dr Mohammad Asha, one of those arrested in Britain.

A top counter terrorism expert has been sent from London to Australia to assist in Haneef's questioning.

The Australian Federal Police Commissioner says so far it may well be that there is insufficient evidence against Haneef or it may well be that he hasn't committed an offence.

The Indian High Commission in Australia has got consular access to Haneef. Sources say that the official who met him claims he is innocent and that he might have a victim of the circumstances.

Meanwhile, the other Indian doctor detained in Liverpool, has been identified as Sabeel Ahmed who had studied in the same Bangalore medical college as Haneef.

India has an extradition treaty with Britain but it does not allow extradition for interrogation purposes.
