HYDERABAD: Just a few hours after the immersion, NTR Marg and Tank Bund road were swarmed by scrap dealers who rushed to pick up whatever they could get hold of. Even idol-makers were busy collecting small-size Ganesh idols but not for the scrap material. They hired public transport vehicles for transporting the idols to their respective areas. Asked about the reason for retrieving the idols, Kishore of L B Nagar said they were for resale next year! Some of them even got into fisticuffs as they went about collecting the idols and metal pedestals which fetch anywhere between Rs. 400 and Rs. 600. Many scrap dealers engaged workers on contract basis to pick up scrap metal. A few kids did the unthinkable. They literally smashed the idols for scrap iron.
