Vivek Oberoi speaks about his equation with Aruna Shields and the daredevil stunts in 'Prince'

Vivek Oberoi had a great start to his acting career with hits like Company, Saathiya and Yuva. After that followed a series of flops. There was a time when he was missing from action, which raised the big question, ‘Will Vivek, ever return to the silver screen as solo lead?’ But then now he is back with Kookie Gulati’s Prince where he is romancing three hot babes. Above all, it is the daredevil stunts that he has done in the film that has made a lot of news. IBNMOVIES chats with Vivek Oberoi and finds out more about the actor journey in the film industry.

What keeps Vivek Oberoi going, in spite of not delivering any hits in the past two years?

My dad always says one thing. When a cricketer plays, he is only focussed on smashing the ball in every corner of the park. He is not worried about what the people are talking about him in the stadium. So, you have to zone out from all of that. If you are going to listen to people, then you will not be able to play. So, this idea keeps me going.

Shah Rukh Khan is the King of Bollywood. Who is the Prince of Bollywood?

Ha ha ha (he laughs). Well, I hope the film does well, people like my work and are entertained then I will be the Prince. See, believing something and making things happen are two different things. I have to prove myself. There are many people who do not believe in me and there are many who do. So, I have to ensure that I do not let those people down who believe in me.

Suresh Oberoi wants to you to settle down and is also looking for a girl for you. Is it true?

He definitely wants me to settle down. But at the moment, I am only focussing on work. I want to be a part of good films, do quality work and good cinema. Marriage can wait.

So, you are very much single?

Yes, I am. I am smiling. Doesn’t that say it all?

How important is the role of controversies before the release of a film? You think it gives the film extra mileage?

I have no idea how important they are. Sometimes, controversies do give a lot of boost to the film. Sometimes, it doesn’t ring at the box office. Not sure about this formula. But I have a different take on it. The viewers are very smart. If they like the promo of the film, they will go and watch it. If they do not like it, then in spite of generating so much of controversies, they will still not go to the cinema halls.

A lot has been written about you and Aruna Shields. What is the real story?

Well, I read about them. Rumours are a part of an actor’s live. She is a lovely girl and a very good actress. I had a lot of fun working with her. I think I should get married now so that I am not surrounded by any controversies.

Share with us some of the action scenes you have done in Prince.

On the first day of the shoot, I was taken to the 38th floor of a building. The action director told me I had to jump from there. I freaked out wondering if this is what I have to do on the first day, how are the remaining days going to be. But, honestly, I love doing action. Hanging from a helicopter, riding a bike on a tall building are some of the daredevil stunts that the audiences will get to see.

So when is Prince getting married?

When he finds a Princess, he will definitely get married.

What's your reaction?
