New Delhi: NDA convener and former Union Minister George Fernandes escaped unhurt when his car hit the pilot van of his convoy at Krishnagar in West Bengal's Nadia district on Tuesday.

News agency PTI quoted IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia as saying that the former Union Minister was proceeding toward Katapota at Krishnagore to attend the 10th anniversary programme of a eye hospital when a van-rickshaw suddenly came in front of the pilot van near the busy Kotwali bus stand area.

Kanojia added that since the convoy was driving at a slow speed, the car suffered only minor damages and Fernandes escaped unhurt.

The Nadia District Magistrate, Omkarsing Meena was quoted as saying Fernandes' convoy took a narrow road near the main road where the accident occurred.
