The academy award winner, Stone flew into Mumbai yesterday at one in the afternoon and soon after, was ushered into a press conference.
The maker of films like Nixon, JFK and Wall Street, said Wall Street is mainly because his dad was a stockbroker. “Greed has never been good”, he said with a smile.
Stone said that though he has been to India many times, he is not really updated about Indian cinema. “It is a prolific industry. I cannot keep up. I love the fact that you can switch from musical to romance to tragedy. I love the flexibility,” he said.
Stone said that he had studied the films of Satyajit Ray and had almost made City of Joy. “But then that didn’t work out,” he said. However, “The first shot of my film, Alexander was shot in Ladakh”, he said.
The maker of war films like Vietnam, Born on the Fourth of July and Heaven & Earth, said “My films have always been against war and aggression. There is no justification for any war since Second World War.”
Stone thinks story and screenplay are the most important thing for any movie. “I make movies because of story and screenplay,” he said.
Stone will be showing his documentary South of the Border at the Mumbai Film Festival.
