HYDERABAD: Film actor Nandamuri Balakrishna has declared that he is ready to contest even in the forthcoming by-elections if the Telugu Desam asks him to do so. Speaking to reporters after unfurling the national flag at the Basavatarakam Cancer hospital here on Thursday on the occasion of the 63rd Republic Day, Balakrishna said he would tour the Telangana region soon. He said that he was ready to contest in the by-elections. He challenged Vijayawada Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal to resign and seek a fresh mandate. Though, party leaders wanted Balakrishna to contest against Rajagopal for the Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat, the actor-politician is more interested in contesting the Assembly election.TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, after unfurling the national flag at NTR Bhavan, condemned the desecration of Ambedkar statues in the state. He wanted the government to check the acts of miscreants and respect the architect of the Constitution.Naidu declared that he would fight for the cause of farmers and see that agriculture would become profitable. The TDP was committed to its goal of making every citizen a stakeholder of the administration and to make the administration transparent and citizen-friendly.At a press conference, party MLA and spokesman A Revanth Reddy said the wish of YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy that he be shot dead would not be fulfilled in the country. “The practice of shooting down a corrupt politician or stoning him to death is in force in some countries. But in a democratic country like India people of the likes of Jagan should undergo imprisonment,” Reddy said and suggested that Jagan turn an approver in the case and save himself from further CBI probe. Revanth Reddy refuted the allegations levelled by Jagan against TDP chief Naidu in the Emaar case. “Let Jagan come for a debate with any TDP leader,’’ he said.
