New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh may have declared his intentions of roping in Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan to campaign in the upcoming UP elections, but the actor has flatly denied that he has any intentions of entering politics.
Upon being asked if he would like to make a political comeback, Big B said, “Not at all. It's not new to me. I've left politics. I don't understand it and don't want to get involved in it.”
Amar Singh had told reporters on Tuesday, amid gathering speculation, that Bachchan was a sleeping giant who could spell trouble for Congress if he decides to take a plunge in the upcoming polls.
"Congress shouldn't incite an apolitical man like Amitabh because if he does become active, they'll regret it," Amar Singh said.
Amitabh Bachchan is not unfamiliar with ways of politics. In 1984, he made a foray into the political arena when he contested in support of long-time family friend Rajiv Gandhi from Allahabad, subsequently becoming the Member of Parliament.
However, he resigned from this post after serving three years, not finishing his term after rumors of him being involved in the Bofors Scandal surfaced.
He has since distanced himself both from mainstream politics and the Gandhi family.
