HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to construct water treatment plants (WTPs) in some housing colonies, built under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to supply purified drinking water. In this connection, the civic body has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) for supply, building and maintenance of WTPs using reverse osmosis on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. The WTPs will come in housing colonies at Abdullapurmet, Cherlapally, Cheeryal, Turkayamzal, Jawaharnagar, Rampally Dayara, Kurmalguda and Qutubullapur. The housing colonies cover around some 9,350 houses.  In Abdullapurmet housing colony, five plants will be built for nearly 4,992 houses constructed, while remaining colonies will have one WTP each. The capacity of each plant is going to depend upon the number of houses in the colonies.  Speaking to Express, GHMC officials said selected NGOs or firms will have to construct pre-fabricated shed for building the plant and all other equipment for water treatment, including intake and storage tanks and arrangements for disposal of waste water.Officials added the tenure of operation and maintenance by firms is five years and after expiry of the period, the firm would handover the WTP to the Resident Welfare Associations or local community or GHMC.  The land required for constructing and operating the WTP will be made available by the GHMC. The expected time for completion of a WTP is one month, officials said.
