High Court orders cuts in security of Punjab VIPs
Punjab and Haryana High Court bans pilot and escort vehicles for Punjab VIPs.

Chadigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday banned pilot and escort vehicles for Punjab VIPs just a week after Punjab Police decided to scale down security for VIPs.

The High Court bench comprising Justices Hemant Gupta and Nawab Singh ruled that from now on only the Chief Minister, the High Court Chief Justice and the Assembly Speaker will be allowed pilot vehicles.

The court also lashed out at politicians for availing elaborate security.

Currently 12 per cent of the Punjab Police force is engaged in VIP protection.

Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal alone has around 1000 security personnel protecting him and his family.

Other ministers in the state have security contingents numbering upto 60 police personnel.

Many high profile industrialists and media persons also get government paid protection in the state.
