From Doda Encounter To Reasi Ambush And Kathua Attack, Jammu Reels From 7 Terror Incidents In A Month

Jammu has been at the centre of several terror attacks over the past one month. On Monday, an Army officer and three personnel, were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in a forest area in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

With terrorism returning to places that had gone peaceful, the deployment of security forces in these areas is being increased to deal with fresh challenges. Security forces have reportedly suspected the presence of over 50 foreign terrorists in the Jammu region.

From Reasi attack to Doda encounter, Jammu has witnessed about seven terror incidents, leaving several civilians as well as security personnel dead. Monday’s Doda encounter has come days after the attack on Army vehicle in Kathua. Here’s a look at the terror incidents in Jammu over the past one month:

Doda Encounter (July 14 and July 9)

An Army officer and three personnel, who were critically injured in a gunfight with terrorists in a forest area in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night, have succumbed to their injuries. The encounter started after the troops of Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of J-K Police launched a joint cordon and search operation at Dhari Gote Urarbagi in the Desa forest area around 7.45 pm, officials said. They said four army personnel, including an officer, were injured in the exchange of fire which initially lasted for over 20 minutes.

On July 9, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Goli-Gadi forest area in Doda. Officials said that the search operation was suspended due to darkness and heavy rain and was resumed the next day morning.

Kathua Terror attack

On July 8, five Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer, were killed and many were injured in a terrorist attack on an army truck, as terrorists threw grenaded and launched gunfire at it, on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar Road near Badnota village in Lohai Malhar Tehsil (revenue unit) in Kathua District in Jammu Division.

Rajouri Attack

On July 7, an Army personnel was injured when terrorists opened fire on a security post at Galuthi village in Manjakote area in Rajouri. A large-scale search operation was launched after terrorists fled to the nearby forest areas.

Doda encounter

On June 26, three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were gunned down by the security forces during an encounter in a forest area in the Doda district. The gunfight started in the Bajaad village in the Gandoh area amid a search and cordon operation by the security forces following the twin terrorist attacks. A police constable was injured in the encounter. The security forces recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition, and explosives, including two American M4 carbines.

Twin attacks

On June 11, six security personnel got injured when terrorists attacked a joint check post at Chattargalla in the Doda district. A day after that, on June 12, a policeman got injured in a gunfight with terrorists at the Kota top in the Gandoh area.

Reasi attack

On June 9, a passenger bus was attacked by terrorists in the Reasi district, leaving nine people dead and 41 injured. The bus was carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra. The incident took place near Teryath village in the Poni area, and the bus plunged into a deep gorge following the gunfire.
