ERODE: The district crime branch police (DCB) on Thursday arrested seven persons, including former minister and DMK district secretary N K K P Raja and Erode Mayor and town secretary Kumar Murugesh, following a complaint that they armtwisted a resident of Perundurai in selling his land at much below the market price.Ramasamy (75) of Thendral Nagar, Perundurai, had filed a complaint that he was forced by them to part with his two-acre prime land for just `6 lakh.The others arrested are DMK district deputy secretary O C Viswanathan, his son O C V Rajendran, a land buyer, Balasubramaniam, his brother Dakshinamurthy and Mahesh.They were ordered to be remanded in custody till August 18 by the judicial magistrate III in Erode Karaivaikkal. All the seven were then lodged in Coimbatore jail.According to DMK functionaries, the police scaled the wall of Raja’s house in Kavundapadi to gain entry around 2 am and questioned him about the complaint. Raja and others were initially taken to the Chithode police station at 7 am and then to the DCB office, where an inquiry was held. They were taken to the judicial magistrate’s house at 9 am, where the police were told to produce all in court at 10.30 am with the necessary records, the DMK functionaries said. Raja and Kumar Murugesh kept insisting that they had no connection with Ramasamy.Meanwhile, Raja insisted that a false case was foisted against him.
