Kathmandu: Nepal's ex-crown prince Paras, known for his playboy image, on Tuesday left for Singapore amid reports that he was planning to settle there with his family following abolition of the 240-year-old monarchy that led to the ouster of his father King Gyanendra.
36-year-old Paras, accompanied by his brother-in-law Raj Bahadur Shah and two bodyguards, left for Singapore on board a Silk Air plane this afternoon. There was no special security arrangement for him when he arrived at the airport.
His wife Himani and three children are planning to fly to Singapore in a week or two, a former royal palace staff said.
However, sources close Paras, who has avoided public functions since the declaration of the country a republic on May 28, claimed that he was visiting the southeast Asian country in connection with the admission of his son and two daughters in educational institutes there. He had earlier removed the kids from a local school on security grounds.
But, media reports here suggested that he was planning to settle in Singapore with his family. Paras were also planning to buy property in Singapore, a Nepalese daily said.
Some other reports suggested that the real reason behind his leaving the country was his bitter relation with Gyanedra.
Paras, who led a fast life and was unpopular in Nepal, believed that his father was responsible for the downfall of the centuries-old institution of monarchy.
