THRISSUR: The students of Ernad Muslim Educational Association (EMEA) HSS, Kondotty, Malappuram, ended a nine-year long wait to clinch the first prize in the arabanamuttu event at the State School Youth Festival, on Thursday. In the process, they have also ended the twelve-year long monopoly of Chekkutty Haji Memorial HSS, Pukkalathoor, Malappuram. The team, which took top honours with an A Grade, was upbeat after securing the coveted prize. “To be honest, our confidence level dwindled each time we failed, but that spur us on to push hard for the win this time around,” said team captain P P Nabeel. “We have been trying hard for the past nine years to win the first prize, and I’m happy that the boys did us proud this year. I thank Saithalavi, who taught the boys the nuances of the art form, on behalf of our school,” said Mansoor, the teacher who accompanied the team. He added that they dedicate this achievement to two students from the school who passed away recently.
