The state-run Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) on Friday flagged off a consignment containing antenna system for the Bharti Station in Antarctica.
The equipment has to perform under severe climatic conditions, like subzero temperature below minus 40°C and 250 kmph of wind speed.
According to the Hyderabad- based public sector enterprise, the installation will be carried out by its engineers during the ensuing summer season in Antarctica, from Dec’12 to March, 2013.
It may be mentioned that ECIL won the project from the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO and the Department of Space for establishing ground stations for earth observation satellites and communication facility at Bharti Station.
The project involves design, development, fabrication, testing, installation and commissioning of the Data.
