THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran member of the CPI state council N Aravindan, 83, died here on Friday. The end came at a private hospital at 8.30 a.m. Aravindan, who was a member of the Thiruvananthauram Taluk Committee of the undivided Communist Party, was a freedom fighter too.After the split in the party, he remained with the CPI. He was also active in the trade union sector and functioned as district president and secretary of the AITUC. He was instrumental in bringing workers of shops and establishment sector and press industry under the banner of the AITUC.He is survived by wife G Saraswathi (former Asst.Commissioner, Travancore Devaswom Board) and children Ranjith and Ajith.Party workers and hundreds of people from different walks of life made a beeline to the CPI state office to pay their last respects. Speaker G Karthikeyan, Minister V S Sivakumar, CPM Politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, CPI leaders Veliyam Bhargavan, Pannian Ravindran and others paid their respect.Later his mortal remains were cremated at Thycaud Santhi Kavadam.  CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan condoled the death of Aravindan. He said in a condolence message that Aravindan’s death was a great loss to the party.
