PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Agriculturists’ Association has urged the government to set up a Coconut Development Board for the welfare of the growers in the Union Territory. In a memorandum Agriculturists’ Association to the Minister for Agriculture M Chandrakasu, General Secretary of the Association, T Geethanathan also urged the government to implement an insurance scheme and ensure procurement price at Rs 5,500 per tonne, as fixed by the government.Geethanathan also said that government should provide fertilisers and other inputs that were used at coconut plantations to be given to the farmers at a subsidised price.
