HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution for formal merger of the the PRP with the Congress in the assembly.“Praja Rajyam has already merged with Congress. As per Election Commission’s directives, CLP passed a unanimous resolution for the technical merger of Praja Rajyam with Congress inside the assembly”, said the resolution.Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy moved the resolution which was supported by 126 MLAs, 28 MLCs and 12 MPs of the Congress.Though the PRP already merged with the Congress long back, the respective legislature parties have to adopt a resolution for formal merger and submit the copies to the Speaker. Once, the CLP submits its resolution copy to the Speaker, he would take a decision identifying 17 PRP MLAs as Congress MLAs.Though there were rumours that K Chiranjeevi would be elected as deputy leader of the CLP, the actor-turned-politician denied the same. Two PRP legislators recently joined Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinet.Meanwhile, the Telangana statehood issue had its echo in the CLP meeting with Congress Lok Sabha member from Karimnagar Ponnam Prabhakar alleging discrimination of the region in matters of development. The government should convey the aspirations of Telangana people and the true picture over the separate statehood agitation to the Centre, Prabhakar said. The state leadership should not say merely that it is for the Centre to take a decision on Telangana issue, he said. Ponnam alleged that the reports being sent to the Centre from the state were against the demand. However, former minister Gade Venkata Reddy and chief minister’s loyalist and MLC M Ranga Reddy objected to Ponnam raising the issue.
