BANGALORE: Nowadays, many areas in Bangalore are facing the problem of drinking water shortage despite the assurances given by civic authorities. Chamarajpet, in the heart of the city, having a population of over 33,398, too is facing this problem. The residents of many main roads, especially 4th Main Road in Chamarajpet have been hit by this problem. Every alternate day, people get water supply and that too contaminated water which has led to serious health issues. Due to this, the residents have been forced to draw water from the borewells and tankers.Narayana Rao, a senior citizen and old time resident says “We are lacking even this basic necessity and in this age, we have to depend on borewells”. Another resident Bhargav states “Because of this problem, majority of people have opted for private borewells or mineral water cans which is not affordable by economically backward classes.”The water supply in the early hours that comes in between 3 to 6, is usually contaminated but the water which comes after 6 is free from contamination. Another resident, Ranganath, an engineer says “Chamarajpet is really a well maintained area, it is free from all other problems but a lanes here and there, are hit by water contamination and needs to be tackled soon.”When City Express spoke to Corporator B V Ganesh, he stated “It is really a serious issue as contaminated water will affect the health of the people but we will soon give a permanent solution for this problem. It is our responsibility to solve the grievances of people and people should come forward and tell us their problems and we will not disappoint them.”Not only Chamarajpet but many other areas in the city too are facing the problem of supply of contaminated water which needs to be tackled on a war footing so as to avoid health hazards.
