BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has allocated wheat quota to the State for August and September. The State Government has informed APL ration card-holders to lift their monthly quota from the PDS dealers on eight specified dates. The PDS dealers have been instructed to sell wheat to the APL card-holders from 11th to 14th and 26th to 29th of every month. The district collectors have been instructed to ensure that the wheat quota is distributed among the beneficiaries. If wheat is supplied in excess of the requirement to any of the districts, the matter should be immediately reported to the Government. The district collectors must ensure that PDS wheat is not channeled to open market. Enforcement should be strengthened. While the State will get a monthly quota of 32,735 tonnes of wheat from the Centre, the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has made district-wise allocation. Cuttack district will get 3,582 tonnes followed by Khurda 2,716 tonnes, Kendrapara 2,235 tonnes, Sundargarh 2,126 tonnes, Jagatsinghpur 1,914 tonnes, Balangir 1,491 tonnes, Puri 1,363 tonnes, Bargarh 1,321 tonnes and Bhadrak 1,237 tonnes. The demand for wheat in Western and Southern Orissa districts is much less than that in the coastal districts.
