Mandsaur: Celebratory fire by BJP workers rejoicing after the party’s victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh has led to a controversy in Madhya Pradesh with the opposition Congress demanding registration of a case.
The incident came to light after the videos of the celebrations went viral in social media. The Congress said a case should be registered against the BJP workers for their act of ‘rashness’ at public place.
The videos purportedly show some men holding BJP flags and celebrating by beating of drums and firing shots in air.
Sources claimed that besides party workers, close aides of the local BJP MLA and MP participated in the event.
BJP Nagar President of Mandsaur, Kamlesh Patidar, said that some of party workers were carrying licenced guns but no one fired in the air. He declined any action against party workers saying no shots were fired.
The Kotwali police also maintained that no such incident took place and the thana in-charge could not be reached for comments.
Congress chief spokesperson KK Mishra said his party has taken strong objection to this incident which could have injured or killed someone. “We demand registration of case against such negligent BJP workers," said Mishra, adding these kinds of incidents are turning into a ritual for BJP workers of late.
