KOCHI:  The BJP, which aims to put forth a tough battle in the Piravom byelection, will announce its candidate on February 22. BJP state president V Muraleedharan said that the meeting of the party office-bearers to be held in Thiruvananthapuram on February 22 would finalise the candidate. He said that the party would campaign against both the ruling UDF and the opposition LDF. State general secretary A N Radhakrishnan said that the BJP was already in the campaign. “We have completed booth and panchayat level conventions. The date for the mandalam convention will be declared after February 22,” he said.  He said that the main agenda for the campaign would be the anti-people policies of the UDF government. “The influence of the  IUML in the ministry would also be a hot topic of discussion. The government is being controlled by the IUML. The IUML leaders had said that the fifth minister of the party would be decided after the elections, which shows that the Chief Minister has no role in the governance,” Radhakrishnan said. Moreover, the constituency has not seen any development programmes for which both the fronts had to be blamed, he said.
