HYDERABAD: Monsoons have arrived, and there are many things one has to keep in mind while doing up their house in this season. Bright colours like orange, yellow and red should be splashed all over to liven up the mood. Dark colours should be avoided during the monsoons. Reason? Because the skies are generally overcast and one would want whatever light that enters the house to be maximised by the presence of light colours and other reflective surfaces in the house. But avoid using light colours like white and cream as it’s difficult to maintain those colours during monsoon.Decor trends keep changing every season. This year the trend that seems to be picking up is the trend of using brighter shades. Another trend that is in this season is the use of oversized furniture at home. One can instantly give a makeover to their space and add some drama to a room with oversized mirrors, chandeliers, or lamps. The house design should be a fusion of luxury living and contemporary taste. It should be designed to give privacy to every part of the house, but not isolating each one from the other.  Another thing to be kept in mind is that plants that have been indoors should be shifted outside since this season is the best time for the plants to get some natural moisture. For the time being, some artificial flowers can be welcomed in as they are easy to maintain. Also, roll away the expensive carpets and replace them with multi-coloured carpets that are easy to clean and dry faster.  Monsoon is the time to have translucent window drapes. Invest in lace curtains or curtains without lining to ensure that the daylight passing through will bathe the room in a suffused glow. These curtains will allow sufficient amount of light to enter the room and at the same time provide the privacy that you seek. One of the easiest ways to brighten up just about any room is by using diffused lighting --- place lamps in the dark corners of your home that you want to brighten up and reflect the light off the walls or ceiling by aiming the lights there. This gives your room a nice bright glow without harsh directional lighting. You may also want to use brighter bulbs in some areas of your home which aren’t bright enough in the fall daylight. It’s the time when monsoon has just started and the experience can be wonderful with bringing a change to one’s home decor. Just few changes can do wonders.
