Bollywood's 'Big' presence at LFW
Bollywood's 'Big' presence at LFW
Big B and wife Jaya Bachchan were special guests at Nachiket Barve and Anupama Dayal's show at Lakme Fashion Week this evening

On Day 3 at the Lakme Fashion Week, there was considerable dosage of Bollywood. After the initial two days of starlets dotting the front row, the surprise of Sunday evening was none other than the Senior Bachchan himself with wife Jaya beside him as they both attended designers Nachiket Barve and Anupama Dayal’s show. The show that was slated to start at 7 pm was flagged off fifteen minutes later as soon as Amitabh and Jaya (Jaya was dressed in a Nachiket Barve saree) walked in. Frenzy followed on the ramp as photographers crowded to get a glimpse of the veteran actors.

After personally escorting the Bachchans out of the venue, Nachiket, at the post-show press conference spoke of it as a “humbling experience.” He said, “It is the first-ever fashion show that Amitabh Bachchan has attended and it has been a humbling experience. The designer also admitted that Jaya had always been a critic of his clothes. He said, “Before the Gen-Next show (Saturday evening), I was panicking. But I showed my clothes to Jaya and she really liked them. In fact even today, Mr Bachchan really liked my collection. They were very happy.”

Designer Anupama Dayal also went the Bollywood way with models walking the ramp with a heady mix of traditional and contemporary popular Bollywood numbers. No one was surprised that the show opened with the song Tere Bina from the Junior Bachchan’s film Guru. Songs like Thaare Rahiyo and a few old compositions followed as models sashayed down the ramp in intricate ethnic wear.

The Bollywood film songs were definitely a stark change from the music that has played at LFW over the last few days (rock, pop and funk). Anupama explained her choice of music, “I wanted Indian music for my show. I wanted softer music and included Sufi numbers. There is something about Bollywood music, whether be it from Pakeezah or Umrao Jaan.” She added, “I am a great fan of Indian sarees. Unlike the West, India has still kept its culture intact.”
