BALASORE: The BJD has romped home with two thirds majority in Balasore and Mayurbhanj Zilla Parishads (ZP). Reasserting its dominance over the Congress and BJP, the BJD has bagged 33 seats of the total 45 ZP seats in Balasore, results of which were declared on Wednesday. BJP failed to open account this time. The Congress has, however, bagged 11 seats. In 2007 election, of the 45 seats, 25 went to the Congress, while the BJD and BJP had won 10 and seven seats respectively and OGP, CPI and CPM one each. This year, the BJD can form the ZP on its own. The required magic number is 23. BJD has done well in Bhogarai, Remuna, Sadar, Nilagiri blocks besides Basta, Baliapal, Jaleswar, Oupada, Khaira and Simulia. In Mayurbhanj district, the party is also set to form the ZP. The ruling party has captured 40 zones out of 56 in this tribal-dominated district. While Congress managed to bag only two seats, the BJP got just one. The JMM, however, captured 10 zones proving its dominance over the national parties like Congress and BJP. This apart, three Independents have been elected.
