The restoration work of Anna Arch that kicked off a day earlier gathered steam on Thursday as workers began construction of a temporary pillar that would provide support to the structure. To provide a strong foundation for the pillar, three pits have been dug. Each of them are 10 feet long, 5 feet wide and 1.5 feet deep. This is to ensure that pillar does not exert excess pressure on the ground, the sources said, adding that the pits will be filled with concrete. The work on the pits is expected to continue on Friday. The Chief Minister had visited the site on Wednesday.
