Chennai: Protests broke out against the fuel loading at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Chennai on Tuesday. Activists stepped up the demand for a complete shutdown of the nuclear plant and called for withdrawing police forces in the villages surrounding the Kudankulam plant.
The President of the anti-Kudankulam Committee said that only six out of the 17 safety measures recommended by the NPCL have been implemented so far.
On Monday, as many as 35 members of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam were arrested when they were on their way to Kudankulam, holding the skulls, demanding the closure of the nuclear power plant there.
They also demanded withdrawal of the cases filed against the local people who protested against the plant.
