The counting of votes is throwing up interesting data about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana — as of 11:30 am, all their heavyweights, Eatala Rajendra, Arvind Dharmapuri, Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Raja Singh, are trailing from their constituencies, Gajwel, Koratla, Karimnagar and Goshamahal, respectively. However, the party is leading from 8 seats in the state, including three in Old City, which is an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) bastion.
Eatala Rajender is trailing in both the constituencies he contested from — Huzurabad and Gajwel. He is in the third position with 4,747 votes in Huzurabad. Kaushik Reddy Padi from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is leading with 7,818 votes, while Voditala Pranav from the Congress is at the second spot with 6,604 votes. In Gajwel, where Rajender takes on chief minister KCR, he is in the second position with 6,657 votes. Rajender has won Huzurabad for seven consecutive terms. This time around, he is directly taking on BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Gajwel. He was a former minister in the BRS cabinet, but was shown the door after his name came up in land grabbing allegations.
In Koratla, Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri is trailing in the second spot with 11,612 votes, while the BRS’ Kalvakuntla Sanjay has taken the lead with 14,793 votes.
In Karimnagar, BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who is also the former president of Telangana BJP, is trailing at the second spot with 10,487 votes. BRS’ Gangula Kamalakar is leading here.
In Goshamahal, the lone BJP MLA from Old City, Raja Singh is trailing in second position with 19,372 votes. The BRS has taken a lead here with a margin of 1,022 votes. Raja Singh was suspended by the party for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammad. The suspension was lifted just before the elections and he was given the ticket.
