What are soap brows?
Soap brows are a feathery, bushy, and thick eyebrow style. The style is made by brushing your eyebrows upwards with a spoolie full of soap, swapping out traditional eyebrow gels and waxes. Brows stay in place with this makeup technique and give a full, fluffy look that appears naturally flawless.
What type of soap should you use?
Unscented, transparent bar soap is ideal for soap brows. Because you’re combing soap directly through your lashes, a white or colored soap will transfer onto your brow. Using transparent soap is especially important if you have darker brows, as white soap can leave a residue that’ll make your brows look ashy or gray.
How to Do Soap Brows
Wet the top of a transparent bar of soap. Spray or put water on one side of the soap until it’s moistened. 2 to 3 spritzes or a couple of drops of water should be enough. A makeup setting spray can also be used to wet the soap. Let the water soak into the soap for about a minute. As the soap dries, a paste will form. Essentially, this is the “product” you’ll be combing through your brows.
Rub a spoolie through the softened soap. Roll the excess off the spoolie so there are no clumps of soap on it. A little product goes a long way when doing your brows, and you can always build as you go. The spoolie can be dampened instead of the soap bar itself, but it may be harder to create a soap paste.
Brush your brows upwards with the spoolie. Start at the inward corner of your brow, moving outwards toward the tail. The hairs will stick upwards in the direction of your brush strokes and dry in a matter of seconds.
Shape your brows with the spoolie. Put a little more product or soap paste onto your spoolie and comb the tops of your brow hairs toward the brow tail. This will create a subtler, more defined look. This step is optional as you can leave your hairs sticking straight up if that’s your desired look.
Fill in your brows with an eyebrow pencil or powder. Filling in your brows makes your brows look fuller and defines their shape. Draw a line of color that matches your brow shade underneath your brow. Blend it upwards into your brow hair with a flat or tapered brush. If you want to make your brows really pop, line the bottom of your brow with concealer to create contrast. If you have darker, fuller brows, you can choose to skip this step.
Is soap bad for your eyebrows?
Soap is safe to use on your brows in moderation. Excessive or daily use could cause skin irritation and stunt brow growth. If your skin is dry and irritated, the hair around it may have a hard time growing, so avoid using this technique every day if you have thinning or sparse brows. Opt for a hydrating soap to keep your brows moisturized, or skip the soap altogether and comb your brows with hair gel. If you know you’re going to sweat, try using an eyebrow pomade. Soap lathers when it comes into contact with water, and sweat could cause soap to drip down into your eyes.
