How to Catch a Diving Beetle on Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Spotting the Diving Beetle

Look out for it. If you see something in one of your ponds on Animal Crossing: New Leaf and it is not a fish, it is a diving beetle.

Notice its actions. It should dive down occasionally. It will look like a little blue coin when it dives down.

Observe its actions. It does not get scared when you run past it quickly or when you put a fishing rod in the water and take it out.

Catching a Diving Beetle

Get out your net from your pockets.

Press A to swing your net down on the diving beetle when it dives down and turns into a little blue coin.

Hopefully you should catch it.

Try again if you don't catch it the first time. The diving beetle does not get scared so if you fail, you can just wait until it dives down and try again!
