Will Ryan Gosling sing his hit Barbie song, I’m Just Ken’, at the Oscars 2024 ceremony? The actor opened up about the possiblities in a new interview. Barbie was released in 2023 and emerged as one of the biggest hits worldwide. The film has generated Oscars buzz already and three songs from the film have been shortlisted for the Oscars 2024 Best Original Song nomination category. This includes Billie Eilish What I Was Made For?, Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night and Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt’s I’m Just Ken.
Speaking about performing at Oscars 2024, Ryan confessed he has not been invited to perform yet. He also wondered that if he does perform at the ceremony, will he be paid for it? In an interview with W Magazine, Ryan wittily said, “Well, I haven’t been invited. And I wasn’t thinking about it until now, and now it’s all I’m going to think about.”
He further asked, “Do you get paid to sing at the Oscars? Do you have to drive yourself? What kind of scratch is involved? They pick you up at least, right?” The 96th Academy Awards will take place on March 10 so it is to see if Ryan will take over the stage as Ken.
Barbie released last year, clashing with Oppenheimer. The joint release paved the way to the now cultural phenomenon ‘Barbenheimer’. Although it was a healthy competition at the box office, Margot Robbie revealed that the makers of Oppenheimer wanted Barbie to push their release date.
Speaking on Variety’s Actors on Actors special, Margot told Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy, “One of your producers, Chuck Roven, called me, because we worked together on some other projects. And he was like, ‘I think you guys should move your date.’ And I was like, ‘We’re not moving our date. If you’re scared to be up against us, then you move your date.’ And he’s like, ‘We’re not moving our date. I just think it’d be better for you to move.’” However, the actress was adamant. During the discussion, Robbie stated that she always thought Oppenheimer and Barbie were a “really great pairing,” which is why she didn’t want to push back the release date.
