Manchester: English Champions Manchester United will use the influence of their former boss Sir Alex Ferguson to lure Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford this summer, according to reports in English media. Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move back to Old Trafford, and cast further doubt over his future in Spain this week by denying rumours he has signed a contract extension with Real Madrid.
Ronaldo left the Red Devils in 2009 for a world record 80 million pounds transfer fee and has a record of scoring more than a goal-per-game with Real - but had a less than happy 2012/13 campaign. Earlier in the season he declared he was 'sad' while more recently he has hinted he won't extend his current contract with Madrid.
That has opened the door for Manchester United to make a move for their former player, and reports claim they hope to use Ferguson, the man who took Ronaldo to the Premier League, to convince him to make the move back to Old Trafford.
Ferguson stepped down last season after 26 illustrious years in charge, with David Moyes being named as his successor.
