With the kind of public scrutiny her personal life has come under right since the beginning of her career with Student Of The Year 2, one would imagine that Ananya Panday has now developed a thick skin and indeed, she did. Her last two releases – Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and Call Me Bae – deal with two different sides of social media. While one delved into how this world can suck you in, leading to a constant search for validation, while the other showed how it can be used positively to call for change.
Up next, Ananya will headline Vikramaditya Motwane’s CTRL which once again deals with the world of social media and how AI can be used to erase someone’s digital footprint. The Netflix film that sees her playing an influencer is themed on, how much sharing in the digital world is too much sharing? Incidentally, Ananya made headlines at an award function recently when a video of her ignoring a call from her rumoured boyfriend Walker Blanco went viral.
For the unversed, her phone screen flashed with his name but Ananya, realising that she can’t take the call mid-event, coolly flipped her phone upside down. But the internet detectives on Reddit were quick to catch on it. Now, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, she has reacted to it. She tells us, “I’ve given up at this point. I’ve realised that the more I try to hide something or be sneaky, the more I get caught doing it. So. I’ve just let go now. Whatever! I don’t care now. I’m not trying to hide anything.”
Even when it comes to her posts on social media, Ananya has understood that being too calculative with what to share isn’t going to help. And so, she says that she ‘tends to not control too much’. “It’s not in my hands. I could mean something in the best of intentions and it could still be blown out of proportion. That’s why I don’t want to think too much of the repercussions of something because it will happen anyway. If you try to stop something or do something in the most logical way, people still will have something or the other to say. So, it’s best to not think so much about it,” she points out.
Last year, she had her leaked vacation pictures with ex-flame Aditya Roy Kapur from Spain going viral. Talking about it back then, she had told us, “I can’t say it bothers me. As actors, we’ve signed up for it. It’s going to happen and people are going to be curious. But it’s up to us to draw the line to protect what’s important as much as we can and that’s what I try to do. I can’t get upset about it because it’s a part of my profession. I can only control whatever is in my power.”
