Solar Mission:

The Indian Space Research Organisation’s solar mission, Aditya L1, will reach the Sun-Earth system’s Lagrange point 1 (L1) on January 6, allowing the spacecraft to view the sun without any eclipses, according to ISRO chief S Somanath on December 28. The mission was launched in September, this year. The Lagrange point is a region where gravity between the Earth and the Sun is balanced.

Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha:

As per an official, the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in Bhubaneswar will receive a pair of cheetahs, six lions, lemurs, chimpanzees, and other animals and birds from Dubai next month. During a press conference on December 27, Susanta Nanda, the principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife), stated that the animals would be brought in through an animal exchange programme. Furthermore, zoo officials signed an agreement with Dubai Safari Park in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to exchange these exotic animals and birds.

Nicaragua Flight:

According to intelligence sources, the case of the Nicaragua-bound flight that landed in Mumbai on December 26 with 303 Indian passengers is part of a conspiracy in which tourists leave India and never return, seeking asylum in a foreign country based on religious persecution. Out of the 303 passengers, the majority of whom were from Punjab and Gujarat, 276 were deported to India, while 25 sought asylum in France due to religious persecution. Legend Airlines’ Airbus A340 flight was grounded at France’s Chalons-Vatry airport, which also serves as an aircraft refuelling station.

Russia Ready to Launch Production of Modern Weapons:

On December 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow is prepared to begin production of modern weapons under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Lavrov made the remarks during a news conference following talks with his Indian counterpart, S Jaishankar, who is on a five-day visit to Russia. He stated that they discussed the prospects for Russian-Indian military-technical cooperation, including joint production of modern weapons, according to the state-run news agency TASS. Lavrov also stated that there has been concrete progress on this front.

COVID-19 Scare:

On December 27, India reported 412 new cases of Covid, bringing the total number of active cases to 4,093, according to the Health Ministry. On Wednesday, Delhi reported its first case of Covid subvariant JN.1. In the last 24 hours, Karnataka reported 103 new Covid cases, with one death. In response to an increase in Covid subvariant JN.1 infection, the Karnataka government mandated 7-day home isolation for positive cases. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government formed a task force of experts in response to an increase in COVID-19 infections and JN.1 subvariant cases reported in the state.
