A large-scale recruitment for the position of Lekhpal is set to take place in Uttar Pradesh. In this recruitment drive, candidates with disabilities such as having one arm or one leg affected and those with dwarfism will receive reservation benefits. According to reports, the Revenue Council has submitted a proposal to the government for the recruitment of approximately 5,300 vacant Lekhpal positions. If the government approves the proposal, it will be forwarded to the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC). Earlier, the Revenue Council had sent a proposal to UPSSSC for the recruitment of 4,700 vacant Lekhpal positions. In that proposal, only four categories of disabled individuals were included: those with hearing impairment, individuals treated for leprosy, acid attack survivors, and those with multiple disabilities. The status of other categories was not clarified.

UPSSSC had identified flaws in the recruitment proposal from the Revenue Council and had returned it. The commission had asked for clarification on the categories of disabled individuals eligible for the reservation. The Revenue Council then sought advice from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, which clarified that there is a provision of four percent reservation for them in recruitment.
