Virat Kohli was heard being called ‘Chokli’ by a fan, his reaction is now viral.

Virat Kohli has started his preparations for the ODI series against Sri Lanka starting August 2. India skipper Rohit Sharma and Kohli will take to the field nearly a month after winning the T20 World Cup. Ahead of the opening ODI, Kohli had to deal with a rather unpleasant experience during a practice session. In a now-viral video on X (formerly Twitter), Kohli was heard being called ‘Chokli’ by a fan. The ‘Chokli-Chokli’ chants did not go down well with Kohli who was seen reacting in an infuriated fashion. The slang ‘Chokli’ is often aimed at Kohli by a section of fans on social media platforms. Generated from Kohli and ‘choking’, the slang ‘Chokli’ refers to the former India skipper failing to score big at crunch situations.

Reacting to the video, one social media user commented, “Your irrelevant tweet dosent change the fact he is the GOAT.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, another person wrote, “GOAT owned by Lankan fans.”

“That’s just disrespectful man! Virat has earned respect of Indians. Do not treat him like that,” read another comment.

Sharing a different opinion, one social media user commented, “It’s totally edited. When this boy said a background noise of a crowd also created and the croaking sound of crow is dimmed or lowered.”

Here are some other reactions.

Virat Kohli reportedly arrived in Colombo on Monday ahead of the commencement of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Kohli decided to retire from T20I cricket having won the World Cup trophy last month.

India’s ODI series against Sri Lanka will mark the return of Shreyas Iyer to the team. Iyer had played in his last limited-overs match for India against South Africa in December 2023. The Indian squad also comprises Harshit Rana, who was a member of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024-winning side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The three ODIs will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka. The second and third ODIs are scheduled to be played on August 4 and 7 respectively. With India already winning the T20I series, the visitors will aim to continue its brilliance in the ODIs.
